Re: Α Ju 52 loss in North Greece
Michael Balss gives the location as Serres (westl. der Struma). Die Struma may have corresponded to the Strymon river.
Fhr. Merz, Walter; verw., KG. Merz ausgetauscht (i.e., prisoner exchange); M.S.: Belgrad, südlich. (Bf) Ogfr. Stamm, Friedrich [KG] (Bw) Fw. Ahlemann, Hans-Joachim [gef.] / (Bs) Ogfr. Otte, Rudolf [gef.] Regards, Sinisa |
Re: Α Ju 52 loss in North Greece
Both dead are registered by the Volksbund database for 29 September 1944 with the death locations given as "westl.d.Struma, i.d.Höhe v. Serra" for Ahlemann and "westl.d.Struma i.d.Höhe v.Serra,Serrai" for Otte.

Re: Α Ju 52 loss in North Greece
Hi all,
Fishermen informed diver friends about the existence of this Ju 52 wreck in the mouth of Strymon river, some 62 m deap. They organized a dive but the visibility is there unfavorable. The wreck seems to be transferred there by other fishing boats. Missing is the cockpit, a part of one wing, part of the tail and one of wing motors |
