Me-262 Losses Nov 6, 1944

I am having difficult time finding out who the pilot or number on the side of the Me-262 that Yeager knocked down while it was coming in to land on Nov 6, 1944? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Hello schilling62nd,

I too am finding it difficult.

www.chuckyeager.com/yeager-destroys-an-me-262

In the above combat report dated 6 November 1944, a "Me.262" is claimed as destroyed "six miles east of Assen, Germany" over "a large airfield at 52.58N - 06.43E".

"Assen, Germany" which is now Soest, is about 30 miles south of Osnabruck.

"52.58N - 06.43E" is about 50 miles west-north-west of Osnabruck in the Netherlands.

Assen, Netherlands is about 60 miles north-west of Osnabruck.

To my knowledge, the only Me 262 losses of 6 November 1944 are those of W.Nr. 170045, W.Nr. 110389, W.Nr. 110402 and W.Nr. 110490, all of Kdo. Nowotny.

W.Nr. 170045 (Ofw. Helmut Baudach)[possibly Fw Erich Buettner] in an accident crashed on landing at Hesepe which is about 7 miles north of Osnabruck.

W.Nr. 110389 (Lt. Herbert Spangenberg) made a notlandung near Lemwerder [not Lehmwerder] after combat which is about 50 miles north-north-east of Osnabruck.

W.Nr. 110402 (Ofw. Kreutzer/Kreuzberg/Kreutzberg) made a notlandung near Ahlhorn after combat which is about 42 miles north-north-east of Osnabruck.

W.Nr. 110490 (Ofw. Helmut Lennartz) made a notlandung at Bassum after combat which is about 40 miles north-north-east of Osnabruck.

Baudach(Buettner?)'s aircraft seems to be the closest to Yeager's claim.

best regards,

Jim Geens

More recent information

Yeager's opponent seems to have been Spangeberg rather than Baudach.

The circumstance of the Spangeberg loss correspond to the description of the facts reported by Yeager and the 363°Sqd.

Loss of Baudach:
170045 (KI+IH) reactor problem,damaged (25%) while taxing "Hesepe"
after reparation to I./KG(J)54

Loss of Spangeberg:
110389 (TT+FC) at 11h27 crash near Lahnwerder......"jumped" the runway and hit a barm north of the field and then a farm wagon, killing two horses before ending against a building and CAUGHT FIRE.

Best Regards

Michel

To clarify
IMHO one can forget the "5258N - 0643E" because it seems that the original position given in the description part of the report was erazed and "5258N - 0643E" was typed at its place giving the position of 6 mls E of Assen, Netherlands. I'm not aware of a big LW base there, so all I can say is that Yeager claimed a Me 262 over a big LW base somewhere north of Osnabrück.
