Re: Missing B-24

Hello Janusz,
Don't know if this will help, but 2Lt. Henry F. Curry is listed as a 757 Bom Sqn man.
This is a list of that Sans a/c.

https://www.459bg.org/757th_Squadron_Airplanes.cfm

The website gives a tale for 44-41161 down at His on the date you give. However no crew list only Captain of crew, not Curry.

There is it seems no "a/c not lost" as far as I can see for the date given. So can only assume that it continued in service.

For Curry not exist MACR. His plane crashed 18.12.1944 in Brač.
After one day 19.12.1944 he and probably rest of crew was evacuated by boat to the Italy. I am looking for any about this plane.

Plane 44-41161 had emergency landing on the VIs island. Pilot was A.E.Purman

For interest.

"Coffee Tower"
Page 151.
Column 2.
" at 0730, 34planes took off".

page 152.
Column 1
" Not so for a number of 459th crews, however. Missing Air Crew Reports list four 459th crews and aeroplanes lost on December 18 - but the Group Operations Report indicates a full accounting came up with a far higher number. Here's an excerpt from that report:

"Bombing was by PFF methods( Mickey), one aircraft returned early and four aircraft returned prior to bombing, because of mechanical difficulties. Five aircraft jettisoned bombs because box leader did not drop bombs.
Box leader is missing. One B-24 is at the island of VI's; one B-24 was seen to crashing the water eight miles north of the Spur, and nineB-24s were missing.Personnel casualties were 101 crew members missing in action. Moderate to intense, accurate flak was experienced at the target."

This link: https://web.archive.org/web/20160517...g/ersdec44.pdf

For December 19:

"Lt. Walker sneaked into the island of Bruc and brought ten men from a B-24 crew out safely. The bomber crew was forced down in Yugoslavia--all were injured but able to be brought back to Italy.
The men were:
1st Lt Henry F Curry
Ist Lt Hollis Sisk
2nd Lt Edward D Jenkins
2nd It Howard K Athey
S Sgt Joseph E Weber
S Sgt Alvan G Flodine
S Sgt George C Holum
S Sgt Charles W McCann
S Sgt Thomas W Wynne
S Sgt E. Miller

All were from the 757 Bomb Sq of the 304 (sic) Bomb Gp."
(Note may have confused 459th BG with 304th Bomb Wing. The 459th was in the 304th BW.)
(Couple of variations in name spelling also)

There is an interview with Hollis Sisk here:

Click on the "View Digitized Collection" to view the interview. December 18 mission is discussed starting about 42:00 minute. He goes into some detail about what happened.

Re: Missing B-24

Thanks Alex
Curry was from 757 Sqn
Maybe we finally shot him :))

528 - It could be 41-29528 "Ole Andy of Kansas". Unfortunatelly this plane was in march 1944 in 838th Squadron 447th BG. This group was convert to the B-17 so perhaps this plane could was transfered to the 459th BG.

Re: Missing B-24

Starting list from 1812.1944 after a little bit upgrade

Curry was from 757 BSsq. From this diagram I think that Curry perhaps was a pilot plane number: 612 or 816.
