Two USAF Fighter Pilots
Gentlemen,
Two lesser known U.S. fighter pilots who scored victories during WWII and the Korean War needs to be studied. They are Lewis Wetzell Powers who had 2.5 WWII air kills and 2 air kills during the Korean War and Harold J. Herrick who had 2 WWII air kills and 2 air kills during the Korean War. What types of warplanes that they shot down during their two wars? Did they both flew missions during the Vietnam War? What decorations did they won? Thank you. Sincerely, Edward L. Hsiao |

Re: Two USAF Fighter Pilots
Capt. Harold J. Herrick claimed two Me 109s destroyed on December 31, 1944. He was with the 81st Fighter Squadron, 50th Fighter Group, First Tactical Air Force (Provisional). Capt. Lewis W. Powers was with the 355th Fighter Squadron, 354th Fighter Group, Ninth Air Force. His victory claims were one-half Me 109 May 11, 1944, a FW 190 on July 26, 1944, and a Me 109 on October 29, 1944. In addition he was awarded a FW 190 probable on July 26 and two Me 109s damaged on October 29. Finally, on December 18, 1944, he was awarded an unconfirmed destroyed FW 190, which does not count in his final victory total.
