Werner Mölders:25/05/40

Hello

(18.) 25/05/40=one MS.406 18h.55
Many sources indicate "forest of Villers-Cotteret", but J.Prien (JVD TEIL 3 p.355) indicates "forest of Compiègne".
Is this a mistake by J.Prien? it's amazing because the forest of Compiègne and Villers-Cotterets ,it's not the same thing.

Amazing this error of J.Prien!

I would not say the error is amazing-we all make mistakes and in any case, to err is human!

I think that this another location could be taken from war diary. We must remember that Moelders did not return from this sortie and someone else was filling his logbook. His victim came down generally E of Compiegne and Villers-C.

Does ALL his Flugbuch remain preserved?

Does any of you do have copies or are copies available? I mean, his early training, his war in Spain, etc.?

I am interested in knowing with how many hours he soloed and when (Date, plane) and with how many flying hours he started WW2?

A.

Chris, I know you are a pretty busy man so, if and when possible, would it be possible to inform or share the number of total hours flown by Mölders at the beginning of WW2 (the day of his 1st Feindflug for instance)?

I am curious to know his grand total at the beginning of WW2. On another book it (by Sims) it is said that in the French Campaign, Roland Beamont did have around 110 total flying hours....Quite a difference with Mölders who may have already had some 2,000 total hours (in my humble guess) when he entered combat in September 1939. He flew for 2 years as a Flight Instructor and flew in Spain many combat sorties....so my guess is around 2,000 total flying hours by the starting of his WW2.

I am aware that Col. Raymond Toliver and Trevor Constable also did had had access to Mölders' Flugbuch on their "Horrido" book; but they did not inform Mölders' total hours...just compare his to Robert S Johnson's victories and combat sorties (statistic).

Most humbly yours and curious. Hope you and wife are all safe and in health.

I agree, the error is human, that's why I don't "throw the stone" to Prien.

Robert
"Molders did not return from this sortie"...you don't confuse? with the 05/06/40.
