Photo 5... this photo appears in "Stab und I./ JG 27" by Prien et al., pg 428. Captioned as aircraft of Oblt. Fritz Dettmann, 3 Staffel. be aware that they are also identified as B.A. photos...

Elsewhere in the volume it is pointed out that this variation was used during the 1943-1944 period.

Dettmann was a war correspondent, not pilot. He had been reporting on the Luftwaffe since the war's beginning, and published a book of his experiences (Dettmann, Fritz, 40 000 kilometer feindflug uber Polen, Norwegen, Frankreich auf England! Ein kriegsberichter der luftwaffe erzahlt; Berlin, Im Deutschen verlag, c1940). He later wrote , My Friend Marseille, parts of which were repeated in Kurowski's biography.

He eventually became the editor-in-chief of the Wochenschau newsreels.

Dear Don,

on page 428 of Stab and I./JG 27 I certainly did not say that this was the a/c of Fritz Dettmann - if you read the caption carefully you would find that it says that Oblt. Fritz Dettmann can be seen second from right. Dettmann was a PK reporter and not a fighter pilot with I./JG 27.

Photo 1 I believe has been published before by Barbas or Werner Held. JG 2 machines I think.
