LUDWIK MACIEJ KW VM PAF (RAF 792369)
 
I WISH TO INFORM ALL THE MEMBERS THAT MY FATHER, ROYAL AIR FORCE, PILOT WARRANT OFFICER (792369) LUDWIK MACIEJ PASSED AWAY ON 12 MARCH 2007 IN SAN PEDRO, CALIFORNIA, USA AND HIS ASHES WERE TRANSFERRED TO HIS FAMILY GRAVE, IN CZECHOWICE-DZIEDZICE, POLAND.
LUDWIK MACIEJ WAS THE WELLINGTON PILOT OF 300 POLISH BOMBER SQUADRON AT RAF SWINDERBY, LINCOLNSHIRE FROM 1940 TO 1947. HE WAS SHOT DOWN OVER DUSSELDORF ON THE 11-12 JUNE 1941 AND DITCHED IN THE NORTH SEA APPROXIMATELY 20 MILES NE OF AMSTERDAM AND PICKED UP BY A GERMAN AIR SEA RESCUE PATROL NEAR THE ISLAND OF DREXEL. HE WAS A POW AT SAGAN, PRISONER NUMBER 39140 AND WITNESSED "THE GREAT ESCAPE".
IF ANYONE HAS SPENT ANY TIME WITH MY FATHER DURING HIS STAY IN SAGAN, STALAG LUFT 3 YOUR TIME WOULD BE APPRECIATED IN CONTACTING ME ON MY E MAIL ADDRESS, andrew.maciej@virgin.net. (son) HE ALSO SPENT TIME IN BAD SULZA LUFT 9C. HE WAS REPATRIATED BY THE BRITISH AT THE END OF THE WAR.
