Major Kitayev, 3 Eskadra, 3 Pulku LSz

Hi!

In the book on the Il-2, of the Profile Publications # 80, is mentioned a Major Kitayev, who served in the 3 Eskadra, 3 Pulku LSz.

In the book is said that Kitayev and he wingman had sunk a 6.000 ton. German transport ship, and for this fact he gained the Gold Star.

Which the complete name of Major Kitayev?

Somebody would have photos of he or your aicraft?

When he sank this ship? Which the name of the ship?

Thank's!

Franklin

Franklin,
I can find no references for Kitayev.
but then again Profile Publications #88 is probably no more accurate than # 185 (on the Yak-9) that lists "Sasha" Pokryshkin as flying a Yak-9.
rediculous!

According to the 2-volume HSU encyclopedia Nikolai Mikhailovich Kitayev (born 22 May 1919), escadrille C.O. of 3rd Polish ShAP, 4th Polish SAD receiced the HSU award 15 May 1946 after 106 missions. There is however no expliciet reference to any ships sunk (which naturally does not exclude that this took place/or was claimed).
