Neville Duke

Dear All,

in a old issue of "Fly Past" magazine (I don't remember but maybe December 2003) there is an article about No 145 Sqn in Italy with an interesting photo showing a Spitfire Mk VIII with code "ZX-J" and Sqn. commander pennant. I suspect it was Neville Duke's personal plane when he was at the head of 145 Sqn in 1944.

Please if someone have this magazine or some other information regarding this plane may you help me?

Thank you in advance

Regards

Flavio

Flavio:

The following from Appendices III & V to "The War Diaries of Neville Duke" (Grub St., 1995):

Duke flew three ZX-J marked Spitfire VIIIs while CO of 145 Sqn:

JG241 (Mar.-June 44) 4 claims in May
JG953 (Jun-July 44)
MT775 (July-Sept. 44) 2 claims on 3 Sept.

There is a photo of Duke in the cockpit of the latter aircraft in this book.

Regards.

Dear Tom,

thanks for your information.

I have the book you quoted; I supposed the photo published by FLYPAST in the article about a pilot from No 145 Sqn. (I don'rememder but maybe number 12/2003 or 1/2004) shows Duke's MT775, port side with Sqn Command pennant.
Unfortunately since today no one who have this magazine replied me for confirm this.

Regards

Flavio
