What about the first part? Is there a review of it somewhere?

Phoenix - A Complete History of the Luftwaffe
Meredith, Richard. Phoenix - A Complete History of the Luftwaffe 1918-1945 - Volume 1 - The Phoenix is Reborn 1918-1934 (Solihull, West Midlands/UK: Helion &Co., 2016). ISBN: 978-1-910294-50-5.
Since this series was announced some months ago, the general buzz was that of intrigue and complete mystification. A complete lack of information! When Volume One came available I felt compelled to order it and take a look. The following is my evaluation: Covering the earliest period after the end of the Great War, the amount of material covered in previous publications has been very sparse indeed. Between chaos, secrecy and the passage of time, extremely little had been published. This volume fills this void. Is this book encyclopedic? No. It cannot be, because of the extreme obscurity of the subject. However, this book goes further than any other to addressing this obscure and fascinating period. It has been very instructive of how the covert units evolved. The creation of the Air Ministry and the Luftwaffe General Staff are also covered in detail. The role of individuals is covered in a spotty manner due to the aforementioned scarcity of information. Can this volume be considered a representative sampler for the remainder? It is difficult to say, due the special obscurity of the subject matter. However just let me say that I am impressed with the qualty of Meredith's work, and I will definitely be ordering the other volumes immediately as soon as they are available! I hope that the level of detail for the units and for the personnel will be higher. On the whole, a very impressive work! Doug Stankey |

I hope that the level of detail for the units and for the personnel will be higher.I haven't seen the book yet but the word "complete" in the title did seem to offer a hostage to fortune. |
