Sgt Mc Dowall 602 Sq. RAF vs Barkhorn?
On 29.10.40 Gerhard Barkhorn was shot down by a Spitfire and ditched in the Channel. He had taken off from Peupelingues at 13.46h in Bf.109E Wnr.5922 "Yellow 2".
My assumption is, that he was claimed by a 602 Sq. RAF pilot, probably Sgt A Mc Dowall. Does someone have the ORB of 602 Sq. RAF for the day? Also I´m looking for infos on Mc Dowall, as I have no access to Aces High at the moment. Thanks in advance Michael |

Re: Sgt Mc Dowall 602 Sq. RAF vs Barkhorn?
Thanks Col.,
interesting, that Mc Dowall at the end of war like Barkhorn also ended up flying a jet plane. In the meantime I looked up Batailles Aeriennes No.49 by Michel Ledet about JG 52. He writes, that it was a Hurricane pilot of 615 Sq. RAF (Sgt Eric Cosby), who downed Barkhorn. He claimed a Bf.109 off Dungeness at 12.40. Fw. Alfred Griener in contrast damaged Hurricane V6785 with P/O N Edmond severely WIA. McDowall claimed at 13.30 (GT) E Dungeness over sea, this is why I ended up with him. Was there a time difference in 1940 between Berlin/ Greenwich Time of an hour? Cheers Michael |
