Sqn Ldr Bill Lucas DFC

Pilot who flew in the first 1000 bomber raid and on raids on Essen, Bremen and Cologne. Later flew Mosquitos with 162 PFF Sqn.

He was a great athlete and was seen as a gold medal prospect in the 1500m at what should have been the 1940 Helsinki Olympics. 'I missed both the 1940 and 1944 games because of the war. Hitler deprived me of my best athletic years, so what did I do? I went out and bombed him'

Died on March 22nd 2018 aged 101

RIP. Sounds like he took things a little personally. And he bombed civilians, not Hitler.
