F-51 Korean war claims

Below is a list I have of F-51 claims during the Korean war. I am not sure how accurate they are. Also can anyone match them up to a known enemy loss:

6-29-50 2-Il-10, 1-Yak-9, 1-La-7, 0-1-0 unknown type

8-3-50 2-Yak ground kills

8-10-50 1-Yak-9

9-28-50 Prop ground kill

11-1-50 2- Yak-9, 3 Migs damaged

11-2-50 2-Yak-9

11-6-50 2 or 3 Yak-9

11-7-50 1-1-2 Migs no enemy loss or damage

11-8-50 0-1-3 Migs

1-23-51 1-1-0 Yak-3

2-5-51 1-Yak-9 seen to crash and burn

6-20-51 2-1-0 IL-10s 1-0-1 Yak-9

6-22-51 0-0-1 Mig

3-20-52 0-0-1 Mig by 2 SAAF

4-?-52 IL-10 ground kill

F-51 Korean War claims

Hi guys

An ancient Wings magazine (February 1982, Vol. 12, No. 1) gives the following list of confirmed F-51 aerial victories in Korea:

1/Lt Harry T Sandlin 80th FBSq 29 June 1950 La-7
1/Lt Richard J Burns 35th FBSq 29 June 1950 Il-10
2/Lt Orrin R Fox 80th FBSq 29 June 1950 Yak-9 (2)
Capt Eduard Hoagland 67th FBSq 3 August 1950 Yak
Capt Howard I Price 67th FBSq 3 August 1950 Yak
Maj Arnold "Moon" Mullins 67th FBSq 10 August 1950 Yak (3)
1/Lt Ralph "Smiley" Hall 35th FBSq 28 September 1950 Yak
Capt Robert D Thresher 67th FBSq 1 November 1950 Yak-3
Capt AR Flake 67th FBSq 1 November 1950 Yak-3
1/Lt James L Glessner 12th FBSq 2 November 1950 Yak-9
Capt AR Flake 67th FBSq 2 November 1950 Yak-9
Capt Howard I Price 67th FBSq 6 November 1950 Yak-9 (1 ½)
1/Lt Henry S Reynolds 67th FBSq 6 November 1950 Yak-9 (1 ½)

1/Lt William P Dougherty 35th FBSq 28 November 1950 Yak
Maj Arnold "Moon" Mullins 67th FBSq 5 February 1951 Yak-9
1/Lt James B Harrison 67th FBSq 20 June 1951 Yak-9

The first three pilots were flying ROKAF fighters on the day they claimed their victories but were members of the squadrons designated. I have no idea how accurate this list is but perhaps it can be of help.

Horrido!

Leo

Re: F-51 Korean war claims

My info on the F-51 claims are from the American Aviation Historical society articals Summer 1985 that deals with the F-82 and F-51 claims and there are a lot of complaints about bad record keeping! The other is a listing of Korean war kills in the AAHS journals Fall 1994 issue that looks fairly accurate to me. This is one subject that needs more research!

Re: F-51 Korean war claims

Guys

In August 1998 Frank Olynyk issued his claims list no 10 dealing with all post world war II claims by all US forces.

As long as it is US victories you want, they are all in there, USAF, Navy, and their Allies (can't say if all non US claims are there) and also includes the B-29 claims and even an odd B-26 one.

Frank is on this web site so you can search for him and see if he still has a copy he can sell to you.

Cheers
Stig

Re: F-51 Korean war claims

I am afraid I was only ever able to print 20 copies of #10. The people who printed it failed to save my tape, and soon afterwards changed from using tapes to cartridges, with no way to convert my tapes to cartridges. And now it appears that the cost of paper has priced me out of the printed copy business. It was 4 cents/image way back then; a few years ago it was up to 6 cents, and it is probably higher now. I hope later this year (as I have hoped for a number of years) to get the time to reformat the lists with new software (which I have written and seems to work, most of the time) and produce PDF files, and put them on CD in some manner so as to protect myself from selling a handful of copies and then seeing them all over the Internet.

Enjoy!

Frank.
