Hello Melvin,

seems to be "Raucheisen".

So it's probably Lt. Karl Raucheisen, who went missing near the Isle of Wight over sea on 17th Dezember 1942 in Bf 109 F4, code "7", Werknummer 10.246. He belonged to 4./(F) 123 (Eins.).

His Staffelführer Oblt. Karl Rüeck was MIA during the same mission.

Hello Carl,

My thoughts were also Rauchiesen but wanted to confirm before I made a fool of myself! The photo came to me from a pilot of 1./(F)123 who knew Karl Rueck at this time.

Hi Melvin,

Like everyone else here has said - the name you are looking for is "Raucheisen". This person wrote a very perfect Sütterlin handwriting. As an example, I´ve written the name with my Sütterlin font.
As you can see it fits nearly perfect. ;)

IMO this is a perfect Sütterlin handwriting because it is some kind of certification for the novices of this unit when flying over the UK for the first time.
The date and the name have been filled in using two different kind of fonts, using very clear and clean scripts.
That´s why I think such photographs were intentionally taken depicting the Leutnant novices returning from their first flight over hostile soil.

Btw, the C/O is waiting with flowers and a bottle of champagne....

I think we can safely say that this is indeed Lt. Raucheisen returning from his first war flight over the UK, interesting to note he still has his external fuel drop tank!
