FAA Skyraider crash off Norway 1959
According naval-history.net a FAA Skyraider crashed off Norway at some point in 1959. Crew rescued by a Russian trawler.
The Skyraider must have been of the AEW.1 type, soon to be replaced by Gannets. Who has some more details about this accident? Thanks for any info. Leendert |

Found so far in the Flight Magazine archives that the Skyraider was operating from the carrier HMS Victorious.

Picking up an old post, I have just discovered that WT453 was marked V/433, seeing as the three other Skyraiders in B-flight were WV179 code V/432. WV181 code V/430, WT945 code V/431 According to photo taken during a press day september 1959. (I can send the pic off board, it's on Alamy) |

Re: FAA Skyraider crash off Norway 1959
Guys, I see now that your information is correct. I jumped to conclusions too quick and on checking the picture in question you can see that it's quite possibly a 3 at the end of the number on WT945. For some reason I saw this as a 1. :(
]Click here for image Edit: Notice that the fourth, partially hidden Skyraider, has a V on its tail. One can then assume that it was repainted? And that the code could possibly be 431? |
