JG 77 victories

I've got some victories for JG 77 in Russia. I've posted other units but I haven't seen to much on the board for this unit.

10 Sep 41 the 5 AE, 32 IAP ChF was escorting a bomber mission to Grigor'evka at 3000 m (possibly Pe-2 didn't state). On the return the fighters were attacked. At 16:45 (Moscow) future ace St. Lt. Mikhail Vasil'evich Avdeev was shot down and crashed at Munus-Tatar. He was slightly injured but the Yak-1 burned. Shortly afterwards flight leader Ml. Lt. Arshak Ashaturovich Allakhverdov was killed and crashed in his Yak-1 at Kir-Aktachi.

The Bf 109's claiming for that day were the following.
Stab II/JG 77 Hptm. Anton Mader MiG-3 (#19) 15:50 (Berlin)
4./JG 77 Oblt. Heinrich Setz MiG-3 (#16) 15:55 (Berlin)

Re: JG 77 victories

15 Oct 1941 two Yak-1 of 5 AE 32 IAP ChF took off for air field defense as two Ju 88 approached. As they started their attack on the Ju 88 (thought to be unescorted). They were jumped by Bf 109. The Yak-1 of flight commander Lt. Grigoriy Vasil'evich Filatov was KIA and crashed on the airfield. 4./JG 77 pilots made claims at 08:25 and 08:30 but gave no location. Stab II/JG 77 Hptm Anton Mader shot down a MiG-3 (#23) no location at 08:35 (Berlin) which is the one I believe got Filatov. The same St. Lt. Avdeev from #1 witnessed the time Filatov was shot down and noted the exact time 10:35 (Moscow). Difference in time is daylight savings time for Berlin.

Re: JG 77 victories

Thanks for the interesting thread, Nokose. Can you say which was the airfield used by AE 32 IAP ChF on 15 October 1941 ? As for identifying the attacker, my humble opinion is that claim times are not to be considered as 100% reliable, so in this case I will not link the loss to a given claim.

My contribution to the thread:

On 8 November 1941 two Che-2 of 118 ORAP, Soviet Northern Fleet, were shot down off "Vyev-Navolov Cape" by four Bf 109s. Both crew were killed:
_ Kapitan Viktor Leonidovich Brailovskii, Lt Savely Salomonovich Tseskis, St.Szt Evgeniy Aleksandrovich Maltsev and Szt Ivan Grigorevich Lukin for the first aircraft
_ Lt Konstantin Dmitrievich Medvedev, Szt Petr Terent'evich Hivrenko, technician Nikolay Kirillovich Bolshakov and Ml.Szt Viktor Grigorevich Babenkov for the second.

This same day two pilots of 14./JG 77 claimed each one Soviet flying boat in the same area: Oblt. Franz Menzel at 1350 hrs and Ofw. Eberhard Bauer at an unrecorded time.

Re: JG 77 victories

Laurent, the 5 AE, 32 IAP ChF was based separate from the rest of the regt. at Tagayly in the Crimea. Shows two dates being there 20 Sep and 18 Oct 1941 on Soviet VVS charts.

Mader was the last one claiming at that exact time and that Andreev noted that time it seemed a good "possible".

By the way if any one uses the names of the Russian pilots it would probably be best to use the full name. I ran across a case of a Russian fighter pilot that was KIA and found another fighter pilot in the same unit who was KIFA the same day that had the same name. The middle name was different but started with the same letter.

12 SB from 40 BAP ChF were making a bombing raid. Obfw Eugen Wintergerst 4./JG 77 took off without a wingman about 18:00 to intercept near Tsebrikovo airfield. Wintergerst made claims for 7 SB (#8-14).

Soviet losses:
SB (deputy AE co.) Kapt Sergey Dmitrievich Pyaskovskiy (survived shoot down)
SB (3 AE) Lt Petr Tikhonovich Yanychev (MIA)
SB (3 AE; flight co.) Lt. Vasiliy Mikhayovich Beloborodov (MIA)
SB (1 AE) Lt. Moisey Abramovich Khvatan (MIA)
SB (1 AE) Lt. Petr Ivanovich Shuenkov (MIA)
SB (1 AE) Lt. Mikhail Ivanovich Yakunin (MIA)

Also 3 SB damaged and made forced landings.

Re: JG 77 victories

On looking through Prien's "JFV" Teil 9/I the only one that matches for 25 Apr 42 for this area of the front and date is for I/JG 77 but there is NO time and location.

Oblt Friedrich Geisshardt Stab I claimed the following an I-16 (62), I-16 (63) and I-16 (64).

Losses for the 298 IAP for the 25 Apr 42 from aerial combat.
I-16 (flight commander) St. Lt. Guriy Aleksandrovich Murav'ev (KIA)
I-16 Ml. Lt. Aleksey Ivanovich Lukantsev
I-16 St. Lt. Vasiliy Mikhayovich Drygin (WIA) I mentioned his experience of this in another post. He would score 17 personal and 8 group victories and receive the HSU.

Nokose

Your version of August 12, 1941 interception of 12 SB from 40 BAP is very interesting. According to Andrey Mikhailov in Black Cross and Red Star Vol 1, 40 BAP lost three SB during a noon interception, again by II./JG 77.

Are your six losses + three forcelandings ONLY from Wintergest's actions or do they cover the losses of the whole day as suggested in the book?

If not which three aircraft were lost during the noon raid on Odessa?

Re: JG 77 victories

Stig,
From Christer Bergstroem's book "Barbarossa - The Air Battle: July-December 1941". It states that II/JG 77 Oblt Erich Freidrich claimed his 8th and 9th and Lt. Franz Hrdlicka claimed his 2nd shortly before noon. Prien's JFV 6/II lists the times for Fiedrich's 10th at 13:08 and 11th at 13:20 with Hrdlicka's 3rd at 13:14. I believe that I got the information on Wintergest from one of my books in Russian written by Dmitriy Khazanov but not sure which one right now. I'll have to check. Also have another book by Miroslav Morozov on the air war at Sevastopol 1941-1942 to check.

Re: JG 77 victories

Thanks

I have that book as well and it states the same as the one I quote from.

What I would like to know is if your quoted losses are for the whole day (includes those three lost around noon) or not.
