Stalin's War: A New History of World War II [off topic]
There are other published books that shed light on the role of Russia before, during and after the Second World War. In the case of this book, after the first (bolded) line in the description, it descends into the lows of hyperbole which no book like this should have. That said, I mention it since this change of focus is helping to add perspective.

Re: Stalin's War: A New History of World War II [off topic]
Given Sean McMeekin's demonstrated knowledge of Russian history and the true quality of his earlier books on the background of WWI, the Russian Revolution, and the Ottoman Empire, I think that "Stalin's War" might actually deliver what the book blurb claims. I, for one, can't wait to read it.
