i believe that this may be Stavanger Norway, and shows the disposal of an ar196 in a fjord, in June 1945 by the RAF Air Disarmament Group.

Re: Arado ar196 in Norway

The Luftwaffe left behind a total of 12 Ar 196-aircraft in Norway in May 1945.
3.(F)7130 at Tromsö-Skattöra. Ar 196A-4 W.Nr. 122, 128 and 130 located at Bodö seapl.station. All three transferred to Tromsö-Skattöra on 16. July 1945 and later scuttled off Tromsö.

1.(F)/130 at Trondheim seapl.station. Ar 196A-3 W.Nr. 254 and Ar 196A-5 W.Nr. 444. Both aircraft scuttled off Trondheim on 12. September 1945.

O.Qu. Reserve: At Sola seapl.station Ar 196A-3 W.Nr. 200, Ar 196A-4 W.Nr. 131 and Ar 196A-5 (converted from A-3) W.Nr. 1018. Later scuttled off Sola.

O.Qu. Reserve: At Hommelvik seapl.sation. Ar 196A-3 W.Nr. 177 and 237 + Ar 196A-5 W.Nr. 443. All Three scuttled off Hommelvik on 8. September 1945.

O.Qu. Reserve: at Tromsö-Skattöra seapl.station for repairs. Ar 196A-4 W.Nr. 125. Later scuttled off Tromsö.

The ship on your photo is one of the Bergungsprähme (Aircraft salvage vessels) that Luftwaffe used in Norway.

Where the photo is taken is hard to say unless it is possible to identify one of the Arados in the photo.

Re: Arado ar196 in Norway

I forgot to mention that one of the Ar 196's at Sola seapl.Station was taken over by the RNoAF No. 330 (Norwegian) Squadron in August/September 1945, painted white and it flew with unit codes WH-N. However, it was short lived, as it had to returned to RAF Disarmamant units in September.

Yes, I have seen a photo published many many years ago in the Norwegian magazine "Flynytt". The owner of this photo passed away some years ago and there are as yet no trace of the original.

another photo of a recovery barge with a bv 138 and ar196, the ar196 is just the frame and engineless. The photo was taken at Tromso in summer 1945, when these aircraft were being disposed of in the fjord.

another photo for the seaplane enthusiasts, of a Dornier do24 in summer 1945. I believe these were used as air ambulances during mine clearance work and were painted white.
