Compiling information RE: Luftwaffe shot down 04.07.1944
 

Hello all,

I am trying to compile information about Luftwaffe fighter losses on 4th July 1944 (in particular Bf 109s). I understand from a post on another forum that there were 39 fighters lost in total for that day but I am trying to understand which ones were shot down in aerial combat, and which were shot down by anti-aircraft or other means, and where they were.

If anyone is able to provide any information about where aircraft were lost, and how they were shot down, I will be most grateful.

Which theatre you are asking about? France? Defence of the Reich? The East?

Not exhaustive but it is covering all JG units AFAIK. Bf 109s were also used by tactical recon units, and I am not sure that all are in the database. No type is given in the database.

Wow, thanks you so much Laurent! That's exactly what I was looking for. And to answer your question Nick, I will be looking specifically at the normandy area but wanted to get all the aircraft and then work backwards from that. I am trying to work out a specific aircraft that was shot down having been provided co-ordinates of where it apparently crashed (in the LAA war diary) but no way of identifying it. Hoping to at least cut the list down to a small list of potentials now.
