David Fairbanks FW190 kill
Aces High says Fairbanks claimed to have shot down a FW190 on 28/2/45 before he himself was shot down. His claim has apparently not been confirmed.
Does anyone have any further information regarding this "kill"? Thanks Peter |
Re: David Fairbanks FW190 kill
Hi Peter
According to Caldwell,it awas against III/JG26:3 Fw.190 D-9 lost (two pilots uninjured, Uffz.Franz Schmidt KIA;D-9 500601 wh 17 nea Lengerich 0810) Michel |
Re: David Fairbanks FW190 kill
Thanks Michel.
Does Caldwell say how many FW's were claimed? The story from AH is that 6 Tempests engaged 40 FW's. If 3 FW's were lost, can we say one is attributed to Fairbanks, or were more than 3 claimed, or were the 3 awarded to the other pilots? Sorry for all the questions! Peter |
Re: David Fairbanks FW190 kill
The only info available:
5 Fw.190 damaged claimed including 3 by F/S A.E.Gunn michel |

Re: David Fairbanks FW190 kill
Thank you Leo. So 2 shot down, 1 damaged, 2 lost to non-op accident.
So it seems to me he may well have shot down Franz Schmidt, and was in turn shot down by Theobold Kraus or Karl-Georg Genth. Peter |
