March 3 Tunisia
The 1st Fighter Group lost a pilot on an escort mission over Tunis on March 3rd, 1943. Does anyone know any group or pilot that may have claimed that P-38.

Re: March 3 Tunisia
Thanks for the Beja information. I think this P-38 was flown by Lt. William Martyn of the 27th FS as he was seen to bail out of his smoking P-38 in this area. No one in the squadron witnessed any attack on his plane though. The other P-38, and the one I am more interested in, was flown by Lt Harry Dowd and went down over Tunis as confirmed by a German solider who was first on the scene when the pilot hit the ground in his parachute. Dowd was also from the 27th FS and he and Martyn were tent mates. Both pilots were dead on the ground.
