Info on force-landed G1+KS of 8./KG55 during FC
Hello,
I've got a number of photos that I'm trying to caption for the data base of a force landed He111 of 8./KG55 with the code G1+KS. The plane came down intact, and doesn't seem to be identified in Hall and Quinlan during the French Campaign, although there was a G1+KS that doesn't seem to fit the condition of this one that was downed during the Battle of Britain after a mid-air collision W of Versailles, near Paris, on 30.8.40 with all killed. The one I'm working on may have the W.Nr. 2816, although this is a little shakey. This might be an aircraft damaged by AA fire on 15 May 1940, but the description don't indicate a forced-landing. Who can provide some help on this on? Regards, |
Re: Info on force-landed G1+KS of 8./KG55 during FC
Larry,
I don't have a specific G1+KS to match. On May 15, as you suggest, III./KG55 made two repeated attacks on the Thionville area. During the first mission, around 05.30 a.m., the Heinkels were attcked by GC II/5, which damaged some of them without being able to confirm. However, one a/c returned damaged 5%, and one made a forced landing near Trier in Germany, being 60% damaged. If your date of May 15 is correct, this could be the one. During the second mission no a/c were lost. Otherwise I wouldn't know. Regards, Pieter |
