541 Squadron loss on 11th October 1944
 

Good night to all!
On that day, F/L James Robert Brew, DFC ( RAFVR 121269 ) a 541 Squadron pilot died.
I am trying do discover the causes of his death. Was he operational or in a training job? Any clues about his loss will be very helpful.

Hello Adriano,

I was searching the net for information about my uncle, James Robert Brew and came upon your question posted in 2007.

So I have no idea if you have the answer or are still interested.

I was told by his father, my grandfather, that he was testing a new spitfire, took it into a dive and the plane was unable to pull up and he crashed into the ground at the airfield. The incident is published in a book that my brother has but I do not know the name or author.

Hello Gents,
I've him on Supermarine production test flight RR237 crashed on the airfield Nuneaton. (Don't know whether this serial is correct because Air Britain has for RR237 "shipped to Russia 26.2.45"). Could Nuneaton match with his place of death registration ?

Could it be that there were two Spitfires with the same serial?
A long time ago (mid 90's) I read an article about a Spitfire that crashed before delivery to the RAF. The manufacturer built an extra Spitfire to deliver the complete badge.

How did you get the number AVIA 2/2359 ? I can open website but nothing happens when I search for RR237 !
