Me 109 G-6 Wnr 20518 lost on 17 of August 1943 over Belgium

Hello,

I'm looking after some information about the loss of a Me 109 G-6 with Wnr 20518 and from the NJG 2 (?). Can somebody tell me the name of the pilot and the area of crash, possibly area of Saint-Trond in Belgium. I've as crashdate the 17 of August 1943.
Thanks

Alexander

Hello,

I think that the Stammkennzeichen of WNr.20518 was NH+VH. The NH+Y* were IMHO entirely used for the Fi156.

best regards,
Tomislav

Hi All

I am obviously missing something here....

What was 12./NJG 2 and when was this and its parent unit (supposedly IV./NJG 2) formed? And why was it using Bf 109G?

1) Michael Balss does not list this loss at all, in any of his two books

2) Holm states the unit was formed in 10.44 from I./NJG 7

3) Rosch states it was formed in July 1943 and only LATER absorbed I./NJG 7

So, guys, what do you have on this unit? Was it formed FROM something and what was its purpose using 109's?? Competing unit to Herrmann and later JG 300 or is it just a training unit, but if so why the 109's?

Cheers
Stig

Hmmm... strange beast this unit. If it isn't just a few freak errors in the report system.

The latter part of 1944 definitely saw a unit with this name, I have numerous Ju 88 losses recorded for it.

The three losses recorded in 1943 are quite strange though, and the unit does not appear on any form of strength report of the Luftwaffe, until 31.10.1944. In the Vortrag for the strength report for this date, the unit is mentioned under name changes (umbenannt):

I./N.J.G. 7 in IV./N.J.G.2

and the unit appear in the strength reports with a strength of 43 Ju 88G and 46 crew (39 aircraft and 30 crews Einsatzbereit)

There are two aircraft losses recorded for the unit in June 1944 also, but I do believe these also to be wrong...

Anyone else with comments?

Regards,
Andreas B
