any P-38 experts ? '17596'
 
Hi All,
Not my area of expertise american units...

Anyone have any info on which unit a UK based american lightning was with ?

P-38 '17596' with '23' on the nose

would this be P-38F-1-LO 41-7596 94th FS ?

1st FG, 23-Jun-42, 41-7596, Lockheed P-38F-1-LO Lightning, Garman, Ralph S, O-21571, O-21571, 1FG, A Flight, call sign Steamer Red 20, he was assigned to it for Operation Bolero.


03-Dec-42, 41-7596, Lockheed P-38F-1-LO Lightning, numbered 23 on the nose, Goxhill, England: 10 Jun 1942, Ibsley, England: 24 Aug 1942, Then off to North Africa & Tafaraoui, Algeria 13 Nov 1942., 2 Dec 42, 1FG, condemned enemy action, Hester, William, , 1FG, 8AF, WIA (Wounded In Action), During an escort of B-17s to Bizerte, the 27th lost three aircraft in a dogfight with Me. 109s.over Bizerte
