Loss Do.217E-4 5./KG40 on 16th May 1943

Dear all,

At 16th May 1943 Dornier Do217E-4 F8+?N Wnr 4208 from 5./KG40 flew againts the southern mast of the Sonne-Elektra device at the village of Groet, The Netherlands. The 4 crewmembers died in the crash.

Although I've all details about the occupants I'm looking for the NVM which may reveil the personal letter of this Dornier and perhaps time of the crash.

Thanks in advance,
Hans Nauta

Hello Hans,

Not much but if this Do 217 was involved in the raid on Sunderland the Home Office report states the raid started at 0135 hrs. and lasted 90 minutes. An approximate time of crash could be estimated if it is known whether the aircraft was on the out or return flight, I thought it was on the return flight. I have the pilot as Ofw.Johannes Golland do you have the other crew names please?

Regards

Brian
