Identify a Ju 88
Hello,
Could somebody identify a Ju 88s crashed in South of France, whose engines and other pieces of wreckage were recently found ? Information about this aircraft : - place of crash (in fact an emergency "landing") : pond of Galabert, in Camargue (South of France) - engines (found both) : Jumo 211 - date of crash : some days after 13 August 1944 - found ammunition : 7,92 mm and 20 mm - tyre : Continental 1944 - writings on the engines : // engine n°1 : - F 7686 KUd 7672 (on an aluminium crankcase) - on the "stand" (right english term ?) : L9 211 107 018 and 18 9 42 // engine n°2) : - on an aluminium crankcase : F 9541 KUd (15)27 (the numbers 1 and 5 are not sure) - on an other piece of this engine : KLI 9-211.107-018 11-3200.8 Besides, close to the engines, were found 2 plates : // plate one (8,5 cm x 4,8 cm) : Werk. Nr. 76226 Motor Type. Ju 88 A5 Werkstoff. 10102 Theodor-Klatte Bremen-Huchting // plate two (same size than the previous one) : Werk Nr. 36996 Motor Type. Ju 88 A4 Werkstoff. 10102 Theodor Klatte Bremen-Huchting An armoured plate, from the nose of the aircraft, was found, too. Zestörer unit ? ... My best guess would be a Ju 88 C-6. B y August of 1944, operations in the South of France would seem a little late for KG 40, so what unit it was from seems indeterminate, I willscan the NJG C-6 losses after 13 Aug 44 to see if anything shows up.
