Wilhelm Freuwörth
Hello guys
On 24 October 1943, Oberfeldwebel Wilhelm Freuwörth (58 victories, RK) of 6./JG 26 was wounded in aerial combat with Spitfire fighters south of Montdidier. Does anyone have any loss list information concerning his fighter? If so and they would please share it with me I would be very grateful. Horrido! Leo |
Re: Wilhelm Freuwörth
Hi Leo
According to Don Caldwell's "JG 26 War Diaries", Freuwörth was flying Fw 190 A-6 (WNr 530733) "Black 6". Cheers Gordon |

Hi Gordon
Nice to see you on the forum! Thanks for the reply. However, my version of Obermaier states that on 21 December 1943 he was wounded when his Fw 190 A-6 "Black 8" (W.Nr. 530 733) overturned on landing at St Omer-Arques so I was wondering if the fighter that he was flying on 24 October 1943 was different. Aside of the number it appears it was the same machine which is interesting. Gordon, do you have anything in Caldwell's book about Hauptmann Fülbert Zink of 2./JG 26 being shot down or wounded south of Shvinochowo on 5 March 1943? Take care and thanks. Horrido! Leo |
Re: Wilhelm Freuwörth
Hi Leo
Caldwell confirms that Frewörth was flying the same aircraft except coded "Black 8" on 21 December 1943. Zink was flying Fw 190 A-4 (WNr 7173) on 5 March 1943. Caldwell makes no mention that Zink was wounded in the combat that day only that his fighter received such severe damage that it had to be written off. Cheers Gordon |
