Soviet Losses in the Winter War

I'm looking for information on Soviet aircraft losses during the 1939-40 Winter War with Finland.

Thanks,

Neil

Hello Neil
I'm not sure what kind of info you are looking for but from Keskinen - Partonen - Stenman Suomen Ilmavoimat Finnish Air Force 1928 - 40 you can see the daily losses, for ex. on 7th March 40 at 1515-1525 Finnish time over Tervajoki 148 IAP lost one Polikarpov I-153 to Gladiators from LLv 14 and that on 23.12.39 among other losses at 1055 - 1110 Finnish time 7 IAP lost 2 Polikarpov I-16s (pilots Lts Grigoryev and Zolotaryov) over Pero - Kämärä area to kers. (Sergeant) P. Tilli from LLv 26.

The book is still available for example from Stenman.

Robert,

Could you give the title, author, publisher and ISBN for the book you referenced on Soviet Winter War losses? I would be interested in picking up a copy.

Frank.

Re: Soviet Losses in the Winter War

Thanks Robert for the bibliographical info on Morozov book/magazine, I have had opportunity only for a short look on it and could not remember the full name of it. A good companion to it is Geust - Tirkeltaub - Petrov Red Star 5 Baltic Fleet Air Force in Winter War Itämeren laivaston ilmavoimat Talvisodassa APALI 2004 in which the personal losses should be 100% but which doesn't incl all a/c losses. And it gives only few C/ns.

Juha,

Are the books you refer to written in Finnish?

Neil
they are both fully or at least almost fully bi-language, Finnish/English text and captions. That's why I mentioned them. It's very rare that foreigners can read Finnish.

Re: Soviet Losses in the Winter War

Hello Neil, a clarification.
Keskinen - Partonen - Stenman Suomen Ilmavoimat Finnish Air Force 1928 – 40 see things from Finnish POV as the title shows and the Soviet losses shown are those which are found to match to FAF claims. On the other hand is Geust - Tirkeltaub - Petrov Red Star 5 Baltic Fleet Air Force in Winter War Itämeren laivaston ilmavoimat Talvisodassa see things from VVS-KBF POV and there are appendices from which You can see the VVS-KBF losses easily and of course can find more info from text.
