Hptm Karl Langenberg 1./SG 4

Was Hptm Karl Langenberg who was KIA (KIFA?) 18Mar44 whilst serving with 1./SG 4 the same individual as Obfw Karl Langenberg who flew with 5./ZG 76 during the Battle of Britain and made 7 claims between 12May40-15Sep40

What were the circumstances of Hptm Langenberg's death, was he KIA or killed in an accident. I believe he was flying FW 190A-6 (470412; White 7+) at the time.

If they are the same has anyone got details of his career between his service with 5./ZG 76 and 1./SG 4

Hptm Langenberg was awarded the DKiG during 1944, probably posthumously.

Best Regards

Re: Hptm Karl Langenberg 1./SG 4

Hi Andy,

Karl Langenberg was the Staffelkapitän of 5./Sch.G. 2 when that unit was formed in the winter of 1942/1943, and he remained with that Staffel until it was re-designated.

More details about him will be included in the books by Morten Jessen and myself about the Focke-Wulf 190 over Pantelleria, Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica and Italy.

Cheers,
Andrew A.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks very much for the info. Your book is already on my "to get" list but the list just keeps expanding.

Best Regards
