" Column 7 and 9 equipment..."

Good morning,

Reading AIR 35/290 " OPERATION OF FIGHTER SQUADRONS FROM BASSE SEINE AREA ".

In a " Repair Policy " chapiter, I can read :

" Repairs requiring longer than three days to complete will not be at present undertaken, but Column 7 and 9 equipment will be removed and returned to U.K, by the quickest available means.....".

Could anyone let me know about these " Column equipment " ?

Many thanks.

Bernard.

Hi - de-lurking for the first time here. I'm not sure the nomenclature is the same over the decades, but if you Google the terms "Column 7 9 equipment RAF" - check out the third link down pointing to a Word document from the MOD regarding acquisition management systems. To paraphrase: Column 7 indicates equipment intrinsic to the aircraft and Column 9 is loose equipment that may or may not be with the aircraft (i.e. optional?). Organizations being organizations, I suspect this has remained fairly consistent over the years. Presumably in the context of the original document, since the damaged a/c would take a significant amount of repair time, the practice was to help keep inventories high on misc. equipment that would accompany replacement aircraft being ferried in from depots. I could be wrong though.
