BMW 801 F-1, TS, TU Motornummern
 
Greetings.

Does anyone have verified Motornummern for any F-1, TS, or TU-powered Fw 190 A or F-9s? My BMW 801 database is growing daily, but one glaring gap exists. I have Motornummern gathered from photos of Fw 190s with F-9 and A-9 Werknummern, and I have the Motornummern of A-9s and F-9s from Allied TIU unit reports. Sadly, none of the photos I have show both the Motornummer and the 14-blade cooling fan. Also, the Allied TIU reports are valuable, but they tend to list only that the Fw 190 had a BMW 801. What I need are references which show both a visible Motornummer and the 14-blade cooling fan, or, a listing which actually says it is an F-1, TS, or TU engine.

Any assistance in this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Hello!

NARA T-321 roll 69 has a report from NDW about problems with the
production of the Fw 190. On some reports are also the engine serial together with the subtype mentioned. As fas as I could see, there also
TS engines listed.

Hi Steve,

How certain are you that operational TH, TS, TU, and F engines carried the 14-blade fan? I ask because a BMW report of 30 Jan 45, "1. Teilbericht uber Flugleistungssteigerung der Fw 190 mit 801 TH," noted that the change from the 14-blade 035 fan to the 12-blade 039 fan, with the TH engine, increased the speed of the Fw 190, at 1000m and combat power, by 17 kmh.

You didn't ask for them and probably don't want them, but here are some engine W.Nrs. from the report: TH: 385 004, 385 029, and 385 066; F-66: 20 214.

The FW 190 W.Nrs. are A-5: 410 232, VO+LY; A-8: 350 155, TG+MG

Thanks for your kind responses. I posted my question specifically because I don't know many answers and am trying to make some sense of my growing Luftwaffe aircraft engine databases. Regarding 12-blade vs. 14-blade BMW 801 cooling fans, the only thing I know for certain is that I have photos of a few Fw 190s fitted with the 14-blade fan. I would love to be able to ascertain if the aircraft so fitted actually had an F, TS, or TU engine. Also, I am keen on finding Motornummern for any of these models, as well as the manufacturers and three-letter factory codes. An finally, ANY data you can supply is greatly appreciated.

Hello Steve,
I was planning to start a BMW801 database, but I gues I dont need to bother. ;)

In Luftwaffe Verband 40, page 17 there is a picture of what apears to be a Fw190F-9. According to Barry Rosch it has the number 348787 on the cowlring and it seems to have a 14-blade fan.

Hello Dennis,

OK, you really got me going. I immediately dug out LV #40, but sadly, I am fairly certain it's 12-blades not 14. I also checked my "Neubiberg" file for other shots of the craft to which you alluded. Unless I am incorrect, it's the often-potographed F-8 WNr. 586575, marked 2+ - Green. One of these days I'll hit the jackpot and find a confirmed F-1, TS, or Tu in an Fw 190 A-9 or F-9. Thanks for the input.
