Cornish town bombed date?

Hello,

I have acquired a piece of shrapnel with a letter stating its from a German bomb dropped on Morwenna, Cornwall during WW2.
Does anyone have dates that Morwenna was bombed, it can't have been hit that often.

I've searched my references but without any clues so I tried putting 'Morwenna' into MultiMap and it didn't find anything. 'Morwenna Cornwall' into Google similarly failed. So it must be a tiny place (single farm ?) if it exists at all. I certainly hadn't heard of it and I've lived in Cornwall for over 20 years.
One other possibility is that it was not a direct attack but a bomb jettisoned from an aircraft flying to attack (e.g.) Liverpool from a base in Brittany. One such aircraft was shot down in the Boconnoc area.
Sorry, that's the best I can do,
Ross

Hi Ross,

Thanks for the response, I think its near Falmouth and i am sure that area had a few bombs at various times in the war. Even FW190 jabos bombed the region in 1942 so i think i will never pin it down to a single date.

The letter with the shrapnel states it hit her pillow whilst she was in bed..now thats a wake up call !

hello Jon,
If you try St. Morwenna you will find a link to Bude in North Cornwall.
Cleave Air station is near and was bombed on 26th August 1940 by 2 Ju88's damaging two Wallace a/c and injuring a civilian. A 1100 lb bomb hit on 2nd Octoberbut failed to explode.

If she was in bed, it is unlikely it was a Jabo attack as they were conducted by day. I have a listing of all such attacks but Morwenna does not figure

Chris

You are assuming she wasn't in bed during the day!!

Cheers

Hi
I could be wrong, but morwenna I think is/was near the Lizard, ( I seem to recall the name from memory, when I was searching the cornish war diaries )

I gave my notes away so I can't check.

However surely both Lizard or Bude are beyond the range of the 190 jabo attacks ?
cheers
Jerry
