Re: Me 110 lost on 11/05/1940 over Belgium
Hi Alain,
No almost certainly not in Belgium. II./ZG1 was on May 10 and 11 active over western Holland. The crash you refer to happened at Liedern near Bocholt, which is just across the dutch-german border east of Arnhem, which seems to confirm ths was on the return of a mission over Holland. (The naming of the crash location as Leiden has often caused a lot of confusion, Leiden being of course in western Holland between The Hague and Schiphol.) On the morning of May 11 II./ZG1 made a patrol towards the Rotterdam area, so this accident might have happened on that mission. But due to lack of more accurate timing I can't be more conclusive. Anyone with more data on the time? The names of the crew are correct, both were slightly wounded and brought to the hospital. Regards, Pieter |
