He-111 KG55
 
On 27/05/1940 a He-111 P from KG 55 crashlanded somewhere in Belgium. The crew Fw Schmidt H ( POW ) pilot , Ofw Botzki E ( POW ) observer , Uffz Wicklein F ( POW ) engineer and Gfr Kaufhold H ( POW ) gunner. Any idea were this happened ?

3./KG55 Heinkel He111P. Forced-landed near Langemark with starboard engine damaged by flak during sortie to attack roads west of Ypres 10.45 a.m. Oberfw Erich Botzki, Fw Heinrich Schmidt, Uffz Hans Kaufhold, Uffz Fritz Wicklein, and Gefr Walter Schwinn captured unhurt. Aircraft G1+CL a write-off.

Kaufhold returned to his unit but missed the BofB only to be taken POW in Apr 41. I am just about to send him an Xmas card

2 times trapped not very common, maybe he married nd was definitly trapped ??

Hi, just found among my records that Kaufholds a/c G1+CL was W.Nr 2145
subsequently recovered by the Germans, repaired and put back into service.
He111P W.Nr 2145 by now with the 7KG55, was involved in combat duties suffering 40% damage due to enemy fire at Slipcze on 23 June 1941, and then 70% in an accident 25 Nov 42 with FFS C13 Brunau.

Steve: I responded to this before. The ac was on fire hence most were badly burned so am surprised that an ac that crashed behind enemy lines and on fire was recovered and put back in the air again?
