North African captured Ju 52 colours?
2 Attachment(s)
I am currently building the Revelle 1/48th. Ju 52, and would like to finish it as per the enclosed photos.
The aircraft, after being captured, was used by the SAAF in North Africa. I have obtained some suggestions on the colour scheme, but any further input from members would be most welcome. Etienne. |
Re: North African captured Ju 52 colours?
It appears the dark color was applied as an over-spray. Perhaps the original color was an RLM 79. The question is when was it applied. It is hard to tell from the picture, but it looks as if the over-spray is on the roundel, which would indicate it was put on after the roundel was applied. That would mean SAAF application. But what color?
Also note that it appears no application was made to the control surfaces, rudder and elevator. |
Re: North African captured Ju 52 colours?
Thanks for that Steven........Up to this stage my guess plus previous input boils down to the following.
This looks like the "civil" version (see the black curve on the nose and black area on the wing) therefore the whole body could have been pale grey. Upon arrival in North Africa 79 streaks were added fairly heavily over the top and sides , and finally streaks of 80 over this. The rudder shows two colours (light grey +79) while the fin and the rest of the fuselage and wings have the third colour (80) added. Could the fuselage band have been dark blue? ..............Questions,........Questions. Cheers! |
