RAF-bomber crashes_vicinity of Oschersleben,Germany
Hi,
I'm looking for 2 RAF bomber crashes in the vicinity of Oschersleben, (located between Magdeburg and Halberstadt). 1. January 1944 a) Probably the evening of 14/15 Jan '44 b) or the night 20/21 Jan '44 crashsite: between the villages Hordorf and Wulferstedt (4 kilometers west of Oschersleben) 2. January 1945 Probably the night of 16/17 Jan '45 crashsite: nearby the village Hordorf (3 kilometers west of Oschersleben) Unfortunately, I am not in the possession of the "Bomber Command Losses" books. Can someone help me? Regards, digedag1 |

Re: RAF-bomber crashes_vicinity of Oschersleben,Germany
Thank you very much!
Your message is in accordance with eyewitness reports. -The "January'44" bomber (Halifax LK 912, MP-N) was found completely destroyed in the fields, approximately 1,5km NW of Hordorf. Pieces were scattered in a large area. -The "January'45" bomber (Halifax MZ 927, NP-Y) came down in the immediate vicinity north of Hordorf in greater segments. 3 airmen in blue-gray uniforms were taken prisoners. 2 of them came into Hordorf the late evening on 16 Jan '45, the third surrendered on Hordorf's railway station the other morning. Do you have the crew names (with POW, KIA) too for me? In the spring this year I have visited Brugge (for the first time). Beautiful old town! Christmas greetings from Germany. digedag1 |

Re: RAF-bomber crashes_vicinity of Oschersleben,Germany
Pensioners reported me that 8(?) airmen (british?,american?) were buried, (later recovered in 1945) at the community cemetery of the village Gunsleben.
Gunsleben is located 15km westward of Oschersleben. They were victims of an allied air raid and after great aerial battles in a day's evening (probably 19.30 hours MEZ) in mid-January 1944 their plane had crashed near Gunsleben. Any knowledge to what plane this airmen could have belonged to ? digedag1 |
