Hptm Helmut Heisig

It is believe that Heisig flew with 2/KG 4 and was wounded on or about 15 Feb 42; can anyone confirm this? Heisig would be killed in action with 1/SKG 10 on 24 Mar 44

Re: Hptm Helmut Heisig

KG 4 book has Ltn. Helmut Heisig wounded on 25-2-1942 with I/KG 4. Text shows '' Kapitan der 2 Staffel Hpt. Freiherr von Wertern am 25 .2. durch Flakvolltreffer todlich verletzt. Der ebenfalls an Kopf und Bein schwer verwundete Ff. Ltn Heisig landet das Flugzeug glatt in Pleskau ''
NVM gives Heisig's E.n. as 55531/47, hope this is of help and that another of your excellent books comes out soon,

Re: Hptm Helmut Heisig

Brian: Thanks again (as always). I have Heisig's record of service and it says he was wounded/injured 15 Feb 42 but no mention of 25 Mar 43 (by which time he should have been promoted to Oblt). Whilst I am at it, do you have page 2 of the NVM for II/SKG 10 for 16-17 Apr 43 and what does it say about Anrascheck?
Thanks for your kind comments-I am in the process of writing about night Jabos over the Western Front from Apr 43 to end which has to be with the publisher by April. I hope also to be doing a book called 'Destroying the Axis' using 100s of camera gun shots I have inherited and possibly editing a RFC book for the end of the year. Oh, and apparently 'Flypast' want me to do more articles so 2008 could be a busy one for me !

Re: Hptm Helmut Heisig

Chris see my correction 25-2-1942 is right for the incident when Heisig was wounded i.e. same as the date for the loss of von Wertern ( sorry about that I blame the Christmas wine ). The report on the Luft. Q.M's returns for 27-2-1942 does not mention the other crewmen so they must have been unwounded. I am sorry but I only have NVM's for SKG/10 for the Steinbock attacks.
Look foward to your future publications

Hmm, can't find this loss. Anyone have details?

Re: Hptm Helmut Heisig

Jim the incident on 25-2-1942 is from the Luftwaffe QM's return of 27-2-1942 which shows Flak damage at Nelwetlay, no aircraft details or percentage damage shown ( plus KG4 book by Karl Gundelach ). The loss of Heisig with I/SKG10 is from a typewritten style NVM which gives Hpt. Helmut Heisig geb. 14-2-1920 in Bochum missing from an attack on London on 23-3-44 in Fw 190 G-3 wn 160498. This loss would appear to tie with the claim of S/L Thwaites and F/O Clemo in a Mosquito of 85 Sqd. who claimed a Fw 190 off Rye at 0012 hrs on 23/24-3-44 ,

Re: Hptm Helmut Heisig

Thanks Brian. Looks like I missed that one the first time thru the losses - probably because of lack of aircraft details.
