Do18 shot down Walrus 24 April 1940

Hi guys

Can anyone throw any light on the Luftwaffe unit involved? Even better, any details of the actual aircraft/crew?

Cheers
Brian

Find the book 'Fledgling Eagles' by Chris Shores and company. Try Bookfinder.

Thanks Jim!

I've had a copy for years - infact, I provided much of the information!

Incidentally, the incident is not recorded!

Best wishes
Brian

Doesn't appear in the Gen.Qu. losses either.

Hi Jim

I've obviously confused you! The Do18 shot down the Walrus - I'm looking for the unit of the Do18 etc.

Cheers

Brian,

It seems that a Ju88C of the Zerstörerstaffel/KG30 shot down a Walrus of 700 Squadron (on board HMS Suffolk) off Stavanger, Norway.
At least, if that's the geographical area you're looking for.....

One other problem. According following link, this was on 17.4.40:
http://www.wlb-stuttgart.de/seekrieg...r-verluste.htm

Another Ju88 vs. Walrus encounter or has someone a wrong date?

Regards,

Leendert

What is your source for this alleged incident? Nothing is mentioned in the KTB's from the Seefliegerunits, other than a Do 18 reporting beeing attcked, by unknown aircraft and had to make an emergency-landing!!!

Re: Do18 shot down Walrus 24 April 1940

Brian,

I was too focused on "Walrus" that I forgot that your question was in relation to a Do-18!

Anyways, the lost Walrus of 24-4-1940 is mentioned on this website as well: http://www.naval-history.net/xDKWW2-4004-13APR04.htm

No mentioning is made here of being shot down, but it adds that it operated from the cruiser HMS Southampton.

Regards,

Leendert
