Question regarding Bunn Hearn of the 325th, which FS?

Looking through the books I have regarding the 325th, I find reference to the "Star of Altoona", thanks Mayfair ;) , but having difficulty finding Bunn Hearn, and which FS he flew with.

Thanks to Mayfair we have identified the number 6 on the plane, that was possibly flown by Herky! Green on January 30th 1944, but the placement of the 6, means that the number is the first digit, and not the last as originally thought.

Green flew with the 317FS, which could have meant the number was either 16,26 or 36, but because the number s the first digit, it must be 60-69, which means it's the 318FS.

Now, if Hearn flew with the 318FS, and his plane was used by Herky, that would make sense, but I can't find Captain Bunn Hearn, to confirm or deny this train of thought.

Can anyone enlighten me re. Hearn?

Thanks, MP.

Re: Question regarding Bunn Hearn of the 325th, which FS?

I'm just bumping this back to the front page.

I'm having a really hard time finding any, and I mean any information on Bunn Hearn Jnr.

The start point of which Fighter Squadron in the 325th he flew with, would be a major plus in my search to identify "The Star of Altoona", but after a huge search of many databases, the only reference I find to Hearn is at:

http://afhra.maxwell.af.mil/avc/avc.asp

Which gives me his military number and that he flew with the 325th. I cannot find the FS he was with.

In-case his military number helps anyone to ID the unit, Bunn Hearn Junior was listed at the maxwell database as having this serial number:

AO00659706

It also lists he "Failed to return" on two dates, these being ; 24 of June 1943 and the 30th of July 1943

That's all I can offer at the moment, and I am hoping that this small amount of information, may be enough for someone to a) identify his FS and b) identify either plane he was flying when he FTR.

Thanks again for any help, MP.

Bunn Hearn, Jr flew was assigned to the 325th FG HQ. He is credited with an Me-109 on June 24, 1943, while flying a P-40, serial not stated; and a second Me-109 on July 30, 1943 while flying P-40F-5CU 41-14315. On the 24th he was probably flying with the 318th FS, which made four claims between 0905 and 0925 in the Gulf of Palmas/Sardinia; Hearn's claim is given as between 0745 and 1035, 55 m SE of C Spartivento.

On July 30 he was probably flying with the 317th FS, which made numerous claims.

Frank.
