Dornier accident on Milos
A threeengined seeplane (Dornier) had a bad take off at 10.10.1944 on the island of Milos. 13 men were killed, 8 were injured.
Does anybody knows the unit and the crew of that plane? |
Re: Dornier accident on Milos
This was Do 24T-3 W.Nr. 1108, J9+FA of 70. Seenotstaffel. 100% crash during take-off from the Bay of Milos, killing the crew of six: Ofw. Fritz Stier (F), Oblt. Oskar Strübing (B), Uffz. Hans Helle (Bf), Fw. Walter Lüders (Bm), Fw. Leopold Krall (Bm), Gefr. (given name missing) Lennatz (Bs). Unfortunately, I miss details of other occupants of the aircraft.

Re: Dornier accident on Milos
Thanks Seaplanes, you helped a lot,
all these airmen are buried in the cemetary of Dionyssos-Rapendoza, outside Athens, except Lennatz. I found their names in the "Namenbuch deutscher Soldatenfriedhof Rapendoza 1939-1945" regards from Salonica |
Re: Dornier accident on Milos
Hi Seaplanes,
Do you know something about another Dornier or another plane accident on Milos on the 26th Oktober 1944? The victoms were, Gefr. Johann Witt, Gefr. Hordt Benesch, Gefr. Johann Büttel. Gefr. Josef Schmidt, Gefr. Walter Witte. on the pic a Dornier seaplane is loading by Milos , on the right an Arado Photo: Archive Chalkoutsakis |
Re: Dornier accident on Milos
Byron,
A quick look on the plane being loaded at Milos shows in effect a BV 138 and not a Dornier Do 24. Thanks for the pic anyway. |
