Oblt Gerhard Buschmann

Hi,

Does anyone know the service history of this officer? He was the namesake of Sonderstaffel Buschmann. Did he become the StaKa of 1./127 during April 1943 when SoStaf Buschmann was absorbed by the SAGr unit?

Any further information on him - or indeed, Sonderstaffel Buschmann - would be great

TIA

Adam

Hi,

Is the following any help/interest

http://www.aeroflight.co.uk/waf/estonia/estaf2.htm

On 12 February 1942 'Sonderstaffel Buschmann' was established as an Estonian manned coastal patrol unit operating in co-operation with German forces. The unit rapidly expanded to 40-50 aircraft and some 200 personnel. During 1943 it was redesignated Aufklärungsgruppe 127 (AGr 127) and became a regular Luftwaffe unit. On 18 October 1943 AGr 127 was split into See-Aufklärungsgruppe 127 and Nachtschlachtgruppe 11. Early in 1944, the approach of the re-invigorated Soviet Army led to renewed fears of Soviet occupation. Thousands of Estonians volunteered to fight alongside the Germans, but during September 1944 the Red Army occupied the country.

Seeaufklärungsgruppe 127
Gruppenkommandeur:
        • Hptm Gerhard Buschmann, 4.43 - 10.43
1./SAGr. 127 was formed 2.10.41 in Kiel-Holtenau, but formation was cancelled 21.10.41.
Formed 4.43 in Reval from Gruppe Buschmann (estnische Seefliegerstaffel):
Stab with He 60
1. Staffel with He 60 and Ar 95
2. Staffel with He 60 and Ar 95
3. Staffel with He 60 and Ar 95

On 18.10.43 the Gruppe was used to form NSGr. 11 (Stab became Stab/NSGr. 11, 2. became 1./NSGr. 11 and 3. became 2./NSGr. 11).
Only 1./SAGr. 127 remained, but was disbanded 10.44.
Bases:
4.43 - 22.9.44
Reval-Ulemiste*

He 60, Ar 95, Hs 126
22.9.44 - 3.10.44
Libau

He 60, Ar 95, Hs 126
* other bases were probably also used.
Kind regards

Ross

Re: Oblt Gerhard Buschmann

Many thanks for that.

Does anyone know if the aircraft used flew with Estonian markings, or German?

TIA

Adam
