pilot Hans Steiner-which Luftwaffe unit?
Probably on 16 January 1945 (+/-one day), in the beginning aftenoon, crashlanded a Me109 near Oschersleben (located some kilometers W of Magdeburg) on a field covered with snow.
Unfortunately the emergency landing failed and the pilot was killed. His name was Hans Steiner. Can anyone help me please to locate the Luftwaffe unit he belongs to? Thank you in advance digedag1 |

This reference is obviously total fiction. The photo is of Werner Mölders and the dates are from the 21st Century!

Should have put the Brain into gear, of course it is Werner Mölders, looked at his photo on numerous occasions, just didn't register.

Re: pilot Hans Steiner-which Luftwaffe unit?
Hans Steiner has found his last rest at the Oschersleben war cemetery.
There you can find his name on a gravestone. Only his name has passed on. It seems that no personal records have survived. Spoken records indicate that Hans Steiner was a young pilot and that his home was the Munich (München) area in Bavaria. Villagers had watched his smoking plane when it came down near Warsleben (some km W of Oschersleben) and have found him in his demolished plane. I was told that he was alive for a short while. Could not find his name in lists for missing persons. I guess that his personal documents were lost in the great confusion before the war ended (like so many other documents). digedag1 |
