He 162 'Weisse and Gelb 4'
Am I seeing things, or do you agree with me that the plane on the color photo on page 191 of new K. Merrick book is 'Weiss 4' and the one on the b/w photos on page 192 is 'Gelb 4'? Please, take a look at the right wing tip and the red arrow left end.
Looking forward to your comments. With best regards, Marko Jeras |
Re: He 162 'Weisse and Gelb 4'
Hi Marko !
No, Merricks is right, it's the same aircraft on the three pictures. But the U.S. troops mixed the tail surfaces and the wings from the 3(?) He 162 transfered to Kassel. But Merrick is wrong indeed when he said, third time, that the aircraft is "yellow 4" when actually it is "white 4" from the first staffel as the eagle emblem on the port-side herited from KG 30 and visible on other shots (not in Merricks book) and the color photo prove it. He 162 A-2 W.Nr 120 076 "Yellow 4" is not as well documented as He 162 A-1 W.Nr 120 067 "white 4", only few photos are known. Olivier |
Re: He 162 'Weisse and Gelb 4'
Interesting point of view! I forgot about Staffel code colour. If you can look in MBI book on He 162, on page 36 there is a photo of 'white 4', with 1. Staffel 'eagle' emblem clearly visible. Only, the book state it is a W.Nr. 120097 !?
So step back a little, which three planes were moved to Kassel? 120017 120077 120230? and also 120067? Please forgive me if I can get this answers in available published material, but where, if I may ask? I am very much interested in this plane, and would be very gratefull if you could help me to see other photos of this plane. With best regards, Marko Jeras |
