F/O Gough with P/O Matsen in a Mosquito of 96 Sqd. claimed a Me 410 inland of Boulogne at 0307 hrs.(2nd Mar.) which seems to tie with the loss of Ju88 S-1 Z6+DN 140589 of 5/KG66 20km west of St.Omer. FF Ofw. Rolf Stoop, B.Ofw. Rudolph Nuss and Bf. Uffz Theodor Korner all killed.

Sources:- combat report and NVM

Hello Phil,

NVM shows '' Vermutlich durch engl. nachtjager abgeschossen '' so it looks pretty conclusive. I understand a member of this Forum is working on a history of KG66 but I have no more info. As well as NVM's from WAST (not currently available) the Bundesarchiv has a file of KG66 losses I think the title (in english) was ''Operations Against England by KG66 '' my copy has RL10/638 on the back which may be the file number. this covers all losses 1943-1945,

Marcel Van Heikop is Mr KG 66 but I believe he has been working on this for some time. According to WASt, they could not find a number of KG 66 NVMs but I do beleive I have all losses listed

It fits with Summarische Verlustmeldungen Personal KG 66 that shows they lost 3 crewmember "Durch Feindeinwirkung"!

Hello Brian Chris & Junker

Many thanks for the information

I will see if I can obtain a copy of the document ''Operations against England by KG66 ''
If not, I know that I may count on you in case I have a problem.

Best regards
Phil

RL10/638

I you get RL10/638, be aware that it is neither complete nor correct:
  • It was written some time after the war by the former Ia and he wrote the unit history part of this file from memory. The losses are based on the NVM's only, no use was made of the GQM List or other sources. Therefore aircraft lost in accidents or by Allied bombing are not included. And I'm still missing a Beobachter who suffered from altitude sickness......
  • The losses list ends after 11 April 1945 (Not Ia's fault....).
  • The Bundesarchiv numbered the pages from 1 through 14, but in fact 6 pages of the unit history text are missing.
  • The Ia mixed up the Staffeln and a lot of technical details.
All the best,

Marcel
