Daily losses in Normandy, June 6 - Aug 31st.

I am compiling a daily loss table for the air campaign in Normandy.
A simple:
6 June 1944.
2 P28
5 P47
2 P51
2 B26
2 A20
9 Spitfire
9 Typhoon
3 Mustang
3 Mosquito

I am using this site for 9th AF:

http://www.geocities.com/AF9th/new_page_13.htm

and the book 'Fighter Command losses 1944' for 2nd TAF.

I can get the Bomber Command figures from the 1944 Bomber Command book (but I don't really need those) so can anyone tell me if the sources are complete or are there Groups outside these references I need to add in?
I have Shores 3 volume set on 2nd TAF and the 8th AF books by Freeman.
Basicaly I am just after direct intervention in the ground battles but I realise I cant seperate those out from all the rest going on in the air!
I am really a ground war man and hope I am not going wrong here.

Hello Mkenny,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know Bomber Command had some ground support operations in Normandy, so you would need the Bomber Command losses for 1944 - the Lost bombers-site contains too many mistakes and omissions to rely on.

Regards,

Bart

IIRC - The 4th FG lost 9 P-51s on D-Day, seven to fighters when caught strafing on the deck plus two to flak..

A better book would be Kent Millers Pilots and Units of eighth Fighter Command - it has mistakes but far more accurate than any of Freeman's works..

Then of course there are the troop carriers / glider tugs of both the RAF and USAAF, at least a couple of 38 Group Halifaxs and Stirlings were lost on D-Day that I know of.

This site covers 38 Group

Dave Clark of Canada, who used to frequent this forum has already done losses and claims on a daily basis for the entire campaign. He used to have a web site which I seem to have lost the link. Perhaps someone here has it.

His format was heavily based on fighter claims and losses although bombing missions were mentioned.

He also published a book on the experiences of a relative who was a Spitfire pilot at the time.
