July 30, 1944, P-38 shot down near south France coast
Can anybody help with more information related to P-38 which was apparently lost on July 30, 1944 near South France coast?
Could it be American (?) Lt. Meredith flying with same unit like Saint-Exupery? Any other P-38s lost in this area? The claim was submitted by JGr. 200. Mr. Frappe in his book refers to P-38, Tony Wood refers to B-17. Any help would be much appreciated thanks |
Re: July 30, 1944, P-38 shot down near south France coast
Jan,
2nd Lt Gene C. Meredith went missing in F-5B 42-68294 on 30 July 1944 on a mapping mission to S. France. 23rd PS, 5th RG. MACR 7339. From what I could read is that pilot had called "mayday" for being under attack by enemy aircraft. Last estimated position was 43°07' N and 7°56' E. Regards, Leendert |

Leendert,
thanks a lot for your post! Is there a time of interception stated in the MACR? Can anyone add some details about this mission, unit or pilot? regards |
