He 111 A1+CA crashed 26.07.41 Stab/KG53

Hi,

Can anyone provide me with further aircraft details, Wnr, location etc relating to this loss?
The crew were: Fw Herbert Häusler, Ogefr Josef Robold, Gefr Hans-Georg Schmitz, Gefr Walter Bresart and Gefr Hans Tittel. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

He 111 H-2, 2741, A1+CA, Jeljna. All crew killed. Collided with He 111 H-5, 3914, A1+GA whose crew all baled out. Did you get my scans of the Ju 88

Is there any more information on what was the reason for this collision? Would also like to know the names of the crew from "A1+GA" that bailed out?

I couldn't find the town "Jeljna" on googlemaps. Was this behind enemy lines?

Thanks in advance,

Thomas

Another example of awful phonetic wiriting in German documents (not that other countries are better for that matter :) ):

http://maps.google.fr/maps?hl=fr&saf...-8&sa=N&tab=wl

By the way, when Google Maps don't find a place, try a Google. Other map website are more precise (like maplandia), but less easy to search, so the use of Google is necessary.
The other plus of Google could be that someone may have asked the same question, and had got an answer.

In this case, it was the second. Jeljna, Yelnia or El'nya... are all the same place and Grossdeutschland fought there in summer 1941 among other units.

Best regards

Laurent

Thanks Laurent for the location!

I did do a google search for the A1+CA and found it here :D, but didn't do it for the location, will do next time!

Anyone that knows the crew of A1+GA?

Kind regards, Thomas

Slightly OT, but may be helpful:

Try bing.com for such searches. In this case, it is so intelligent that it even finds four Jelnjas in (White) Russia :):
