Uffz Karl Castens and One Unknown, 16.06.44.
Hi All,
On the 16th of June 1944 the body of a Uffz Karl Castens was picked up at sea South East of the Isle of Wight, together with an unknown who had the EM 65061/46, they where both reburied at sea. Any further info on these two would a great help. Thanks Joe. |
Re: Uffz Karl Castens and One Unknown, 16.06.44.
Hi Joe,
Uffz Karl Castens was the B in the crew of Ofw Muller shot down on 7-6-44 in He177A-5 550112 of 5/KG40. As regards the other airman with no 65061/46 two of the crew of Ltn Palme of 9/KG100 shot down 29/30-4-44 in Do217K-3 6N+IT had the same no. 65061-11 and 65061-32. I would imagine the unidentified airman came from one of the six Do217's of KG100 with missing aircrew lost between 8th-15th-June. I do not have the NVM's perhaps someone else might be able to help, Regards Brian Bines |

Re: Uffz Karl Castens and One Unknown, 16.06.44.
Hi Joe,
Only one 9th staffel a/c was lost in the period D0217K-3 6N+KT on 10-6-44 three crew were shown as missing Ff Ltn Heinz Schul, B Uffz Hans Daus (noted as still missing) and Bm Ogef. Heinz Neumann from a mission to Barfleur. It would be tempting to think the Bm may have been you man with no.65061/46 but it is always dangerous to assume. I take it your source has no other clue such as rank etc. Regards Brian |
Re: Uffz Karl Castens and One Unknown, 16.06.44.
Brian,
My source is AIR2/8739, a list of 41 named and 4 unnamed GAF personnel buried at sea, in the case of the guy with the EM 65061/46, no rank is given. Joe. |
