i am looking for more info on the activities of
Ritterkreuztrager jakob Jenster, stukapilot of 7 staffel St.G 1

what units ,flights, decorations
any info would be appreciated

Hello!
Jenster started his carreer in the navy on the first of Oct. 1935 and transferred to the Luftwaffe (see) 1.1 1936.
From Sept. 39 until april 1940 Uffz. and pilot in Stukaschule 1. 1.April to 20. march 1941 flying for 7./StG 1. Then until June 42 Flying instructor in Stuka schule in Graz.
From June 42 again 7./StG 1 and 1943/44 flying for 6./StG 2 on the eastern front.
From 10. of juli 1944 to the rest of the war he was with 10.(Pz)/SG 2
!6.May he was captured by the americans who "gave" him to the russians and they kept him prisoner until Sept. 1949.

He has 960 missions, of these were 360 Panzerjagdeinsatze mit Ju 87 with cannons and more than 100 tanks were destroyed by him.

I have his autograph and i can see the following decorations
German cross in gold, Knights cross, Flying clasp in gold with pendant for dive-bombers, EK 1 and two, eastern front medal and finally the medal for long service in the armed forces.
My infos is from the book on KC winners in the Stuka und Schlachtfliegern, by Ernst Obermaier

i saw somewere in 7 march 1944 the unit was disbanded and became 10/SG77
after that date no more info
the Geschwader commodore 10-9-43until 1-44 was Hptm Maximilian Otte.
after that date no more info
do yuo have any name from his bordfunker?
what type of stuka did he flew with 10 : SG 77 ? the last info i have is october 1943 (ORSCHA Russia) ju 87 D3- G
was he never shot down?

Hello again!
His Bordfunker was Ofw. Hubert Sassa.
After a crash near Lemberg in the beginning of 1945, his carreer as a pilot ended.
I think, that the expression "Kanonenvogel" must mean, that he flew a Ju 87 G model, but here i am "skating on thin ice". Maybe some other knows more!!

Hi,
I am the great niece of the Bordfunker Ofw Hubert Sassa. For many years we try to learn something from him to his fate. Do you know whether he survived the crash and whether he came as its pilot captured. His sister left explained him for dead in 1949.

Hello Bernadette!
I have unfortunately not been able to find anything more than what stood in www2awards.com where it states that he was missing in action between the 11. and 18. of June 1943. At that time he was a member of 9. Staffel in Schlachtgeschwader 1.
Posthumously he was awarded the German Cross in Gold on the 5. January 1944.
I am sure someone in this forum can add more than i have been able to find. Good luck and a happy new year 2011.

1935-39 assigned to I.(Stuka)/Trägergruppe 186 from its inception in 09.39.
09.39 Uffz. with Stukaschule 1 (to 04.40).
04.40 trf to 7./St.G. 1 (to 20.03.41).
03.41 trf to Stukaschule Graz as an instructor (to 06.42).
06.42 trf to 7./St.G. 1.
05.06.42 Ofw., awarded the Ehrenpokal.
10.11.42 Ofw., awarded DKG, 7./St.G. 1.
12.42 trf to Versuchskdo. für Panzerbekämpfung and then to 10.(Pz.)/SG 2.
1943-44 with 6./St.G. 2.
29.02.44 Ofw., awarded Ritterkreuz, 6./St.G. 2.
1944 Lt., flight instructor at the Stuka school in Graz.
10.07.44 trf to 10.(Pz)/SG 2 (to 05.45).
[†1945 in a plane crash at the beginning of the year, according to some sources].
16.06.45 handed over by the Americans to the Russians.
09.49 released.
Credited with nearly 1,000 combat missions and the destruction of more than 100 tanks.

Interesting reading. I have a group to Jakob Jenster's wingman whilst with 7/StG 1, his name was Siegfried Plappert DKiG. They both transferred to Versuchskdo. für Panzerbekämpfung together but due to illness and a previous accident Plappert was hospitalised and after recovery became an instructor again with SG 151.
Incidentally they were both at Stukaschule 1 together also, however Herr Plappert did not transfer to 7/StG 1 until 1941 after the invasion of Russia and the release of certian instructors.
I have some letters from Herr Jenster regarding their shared experiences....even celebrating their 70th birthdays together!
